From my favorite spot atop the hill in Fort Greene Park, I drew this wide, open vista on a sunny weekday. It was busy—people scattered across the grass, the tennis courts alive with distant noise—but still quiet enough for the space to feel expansive and calm. The trees were just coming into leaf, their early growth tinged with delicate yellow.
With brush, ink, and watercolor, I worked quickly to capture the moment: the calm leisure, the gentle chaos of spring, and the subtle interplay between quiet and activity. Figures appear as suggestions, the landscape spreading comfortably around them.
A Moment of Calm and Motion
Part of my ongoing Three Paper Project, each drawing is done on-site, with no revisions. It’s a way of noticing clearly and responding honestly—a record not just of what’s seen, but of how it feels to be there.
For Rooms That Invite Breath
This drawing suits spaces that need quiet expansiveness—a gentle reminder of sunny afternoons, people at ease, and nature awakening gently but insistently.
