Soft Landing

The Quiet Before
This was the first piece I made on a trip to Martha’s Vineyard. June 8th. We’d just arrived. The beach was almost empty, the sky low with mist. I sat with my brush and let the moment settle. A few minutes in, it started to rain lightly. Some of that rain made it into the painting.

Letting the Weather In
There’s no ink here—just watercolor and the edge of the brush. The shapes are loose. The color soft. The paper buckled slightly, and the paint moved differently where it got wet. That wasn’t planned, but it made sense. This one’s less about place, more about feel—about sitting still and noticing the air shift.
