I met George on the line at CHiPS. He is a former house painter who is now working to get his life together. He lived on the streets for a few years, but now has a room in an apartment. At one point, he said to me "If I could tell you one thing about being homeless is Don't give up. Only because There's Always Fate."
This piece is part of my upcoming exhibition – The Faces of CHiPs - What if God lived in Gowanus? – a series of studies and portraits of the people of CHiPs, a soup kitchen/residence that has served my neighborhood for 50 years. All proceeds from sales of paintings and prints will be donated to CHiPs to further their mission.
The original is 16" x 12" and is framed and matted in a 22" x 16" black frame with a simple white mat.
