Monarch and Coneflower Sketch

To prepare for my monarch series, I really wanted to get a sense of what a butterfly feels like. This was one of my first butterfly sketches using brush and ink, and I really wanted to get the feel of how the lines of a monarch work. In my process, I keep drawing until the idea is in my muscle memory. 

I really love the feel of this drawing. It's both aggressive and delicate at the same time.

The original drawing is 7.5" x 9.5" brush pen and ink on paper and is in my sketchbook. The print is faithful to the original drawing, so faithful that you can see hints of the other drawings on the other side of the paper. It's printed on beautiful Hahnemuhle German Etching all cotton paper using archival ink on an 11" x 8.5" paper. Just buy a cheap standard frame and you're ready to go!
