I always thought bees were scary.
But when you look at honeybees, in particular, they're actually quite sweet looking. It's hard to imagine that they'd sting you if they could.
This drawing is part of a series of studies that I did of honeybees. I'm fascinated by these creatures, and the way that they've become essential to agriculture and overall flower pollination. I'm also worried about the strange hive deaths that have been happening, and the fact that there has been an almost 90% reduction in all insect populations.
The prints are really nice.
The original 7.5" x 9.5" drawing is from my sketchbook, and the prints are so accurate, you can just make out the drawing on the backside of the paper. I print using pigment based ink on a high-end Epson printer on Hahnemuhle German Etching paper. I print on 8.5" x 11" paper and leave a border, so these are really easy to frame. Each print is signed and numbered.
