My father passed away 13 years ago and a day doesn’t go by when I don’t have something I would like to tell him, or a question I’d like to ask. I haven’t drawn him since before I got married, and there’s something both challenging and moving about looking at his face, really looking.
This drawing is based on a beautiful photo that Grace took a little over a year before he died. In the photo, you see me and my mom in the background playing with nine-month old baby Helen. My dad’s sitting on the couch; he has a look on his face that really captured him thinking.
I tried in this painting to catch that look, and I think I got close. I miss you dad.
