I'm a big fan of coneflowers (echinacea). They have such a sense of energy, as if they're exploding into the sky like fireworks. The best view is from below, and if you see some, and the ground is clear, try sitting criss-cross and looking at the light coming through the petals.
I'm really into the challenge of trying to capture light and color with brush and ink. The flower here is a pale purple, and it's actually dying a bit, which gives it some character.
The original drawing is 9.5" x 7.5" brush pen and ink on paper, and is in my sketchbook. The print is faithful to the original drawing, so faithful that you can see hints of the other drawings on the other side of the paper. It's printed on beautiful Hahnemuhle German Etching all cotton paper using archival ink on an 11" x 8.5" paper. Just buy a cheap standard frame and you're ready to go!
