Sometimes the urge is overwhelming.

I'm not sure why my dog zooms after a four-mile walk where he's just chased down a ball 75 times, but he does. Science says that dog zoomies (or FRAPS - frenetic rapid activity periods) are a normal way for dogs to release excess energy. But for Jackson, I swear it's something else. You can always tell when it's going to happen. He crouches down, wags his tail, and looks at me funny, like "you're not going to like this, but I can't help myself" funny.

Hell is about to break loose.

Even though he's a beagle, he's a big beagle (we call him a super beagle), and though he's getting on in years, he can still zoom with the best of him. He'll spin in circles, biting his tail, run and jump though the house. When this happens, it's best to get out of the way. My daughter thinks he's possessed, calls him a demon-dog.

I'm particularly happy with his face.

When I need a bit of a break from the real world, I paint my dog. Usually he's sleeping. But in this case, I captured him right before mischief. I really like how his face came out in this painting. It's just so Jackson, so alive with dog-like energy and thoughtfulness.

The actual painting is 14" x 20".

Take a look at some other dog paintings.
